The latest major DivX codec promises more functionality in the free version, enhanced performance to support the latest CPUs and improved quality.
Users of the free version of the DivX Codec can now enjoy some of the advanced encoding features found in DivX Pro, thanks largely to the DivX Community Codec. Due to this change, the previous 6 month trial period of DivX Pro has been shorted to 15 days, since you can now encode relatively high quality video without the need to DivX Pro (although if you want the highest quality video, DivX Pro is only $20 away).
For performance users, a multi-threading resize filter has been added, which improves performance for users with HyperThreading, Multi-Processor and dual core systems. A "Enhanced multithreading" option capable of increasing encoding rate depending on system configuration and encoding environment is also available.
For those only concerned about quality, "Enhance texture" psychovisual enhancement improves picture details around keyframes and improves quality for fast motion/low bitrate encodings.
There are also the usual round of bug fixes and changes, all of them listed on the
DivX Codec software page. Download the
