Cyberlink has released the next major version of PowerDVD, with an emphasis on high definition playback, and with many new user interface options.
Probably the most important new feature, with the launch of HD DVD and the imminent launch of Blu-ray, is the ability to playback MPEG-4 AVC (H.264) content (H.264 is part of the
High Definition DVD standards). DTS-ES, DTS 96/24, DTS Neo:6 and AAC decoding are also added (in the Deluxe version of the audio add-on pack).
The user interface has also been spruced up for PowerDVD 7.0. Similar to some of the interface features found in
WinDVD, PowerDVD adds docked, mini, wheel interfaces, all customizable with 3D effects.
There are also other additional features, such as "See-It-All", which adjusts the movie's playback speed based on your notebook's remaining battery time, to ensure you'll be able to finish the whole movie before the battery runs out. There is also "Read-It-Clearly", which allows you to move the subtitles to the black bars (of a anamorphic DVD movie), so no more confusion with unclear subtitles. UPnP movie server support has also been added for good measure.
You can download a 30 day trial version - more details on the
PowerDVD software page.
Update: A
full review for PowerDVD 7.0 is now available.
