Sharp will now be the second supplier of the blue laser diode
The Sharp corporation is trying to get a head start in the "blue laser diode" development, as that market has very strong growth potential. In November, Sharp began volume output of blue laser diodes, used to read and write data on HD (high definition) optical discs.

The nice thing about these layers is that they will used in both Blu-Ray format and HD-DVD format. These blue laser diodes will provide high output power, low power consumption and a long life operation. Because of the PS3 launch, Sony has had to reduce the production of blue laser diodes for other devices.
