Most internet users want high speed connections, especially if they watch television programs/movies, play games, or download files using their computers. Currently, the fastest plan offered by Verizon FiOS allows download speeds of up to 50 Mbps and uploads of up to 20 Mbps. I can't even fathom 5 Mbps down, as I am still stuck with just 1.5 down.
The high bandwidth provided by fiber optic systems allows Verizon to send a uncompressed signal which increases the video quality substantially (no artifacts basically).
FiOS TV has much higher image quality, especially when viewed on large screen televisions.
