Google has announced its given Gmail's video chat a small make over by increasing the video resolution and expanding the size of the chat window.

When both parties in a video chat have the labs portion enabled, they can see widescreen VGA footage that's also reportedly less taxing on computers.

There may well be other enhancements that Google has not yet talked about.
