Both companies have produced disc writers capable of handling the new 4-layer (128GB) and 3-layer (100GB) BD-R XL discs at 4x speeds .
Buffalo will offer both a USB 2.0-powered external drive and a internal BRXL-6FBS-BK model with a SATA interface, while Pioneer's BDR-206MBK is for internal use only.
No prices or release dates were announced for the Buffalo BDXL drives and the Pioneer drive will cost the equivalent of $372 and is due for a release in Japan in mid-November.
