George Hotz, aka geohot, is being sued by Sony at the moment after releasing a PS3 hack that opened the system to homebrew, amongst other things.
So when George tweeted that he was buying a Windows Phone 7, there could have only been one conclusion: geohot was going to hack Windows Phone 7!
You would expect the Microsoft lawyers to have worked through the night so they can sue geohot before he gets too far, basically do what Sony did, but Microsoft is taking a different approach this time.
Instead, Microsoft developers tweeted back saying the team would love to work with geohot:
"#geohot if you want to build cool stuff on #wp7, send me email and the team will give you a phone - let dev creativity flourish #wp7dev"
It appears that Microsoft, also recently embracing Kinect hacks, has learned that fighting hackers head on produces not results. And with the Windows Phone 7 OS fighting a tough battle against iOS and Android, they need all the help they can get, to make the phone do more or the make the phone more secure, even if the help comes from hackers.
