The results and analysis for Blu-ray (and DVD) sales for the week ending 5th March 2011 has just been posted. This is a record breaking week for Blu-ray, as overall market share shot up to 23.86%, a new record and higher than the 22.37% previously recorded by Avatar.
The Blu-ray exclusive release of Bambi was responsible for this new record, as well as being the week's most popular title. This follows previous examples of Disney classic animated releases, like Snow White and Beauty and the Beast, all of which set sales records or were near enough. But there were also other new releases which all helped to push market share figure up, as well as Blu-ray revenue, even though combined revenue fell again compared to the same week last year.
