The results and analysis for Blu-ray (and DVD) sales for the week ending 30th April 2011 has just been posted. This is the annual post Easter lull week, which occurred later this year than last year. This is when sales drop through the floor, and this year is no different, with sales dropping by almost half compared to just a week ago. And it's only understandable that studios avoided releasing anything significant this week, with the only new release in the Blu-ray top 10 being the BBC documentary, Human Planet.
This year's Easter lull recorded 23% less revenue than the same lull last year, but once again, box office numbers from earlier releases played a role. Blu-ray market share, on the other hand, went from 13.4% back then, to 18.74% now, giving a pretty good summary of the growth of Blu-ray in the last year or so.
