The results and analysis for Blu-ray (and DVD) sales for the week ending 23rd July 2011 is in. A very slow week in terms of new releases, where the top new release, Limitless, didn't even manage to outsell last week's number one, Rango (and it wasn't even a close race or anything - Rango outsold Limitless by nearly 1.6:1).
But what is more promising is that Blu-ray's sales gains, for the last few weeks at least, seems to have made up for most of DVD's losses, making combined losses around $10m to $20m on average per week, and for this week, only a $2.34m loss (largely thanks to lower than average DVD losses, to be fair). With most of the combined losses translating to gains in digital distribution and rentals, and with some big hitters being released this "fall", the movie business is doing well.
