The results and analysis for Blu-ray (and DVD) sales for the week ending 20th August 2011 is in. Blu-ray market share and revenue both dropped compared to last weeks, thanks to a handful of new releases underperforming on Blu-ray (no doubt more to do with these title's nature/genre, than any other effect). The best selling Blu-ray of the week was Priest, while the Blu-ray only re-release of The Big Lebowski had a successful debut at 3rd.
The underperfoming Blu-ray releases meant that DVD revenue actually rose compared to last week, above $100m, which is becoming rarer and rarer this year. Coincidentally, the same week last year was of a similar, although sufficiently amplified, situation, where The Last Song on DVD sold in huge numbers, while the sale of the Blu-ray version flopped, which helped to push DVD market share up for that week.
