The results and analysis for Blu-ray (and DVD) sales for the week ending 16th October 2011 is in. Not as record breaking as last week, but still the third best week ever for Blu-ray in terms of market share. While The Lion King was still the top seller on the HD format, there were 4 new releases, including an interesting format exclusive, for the week. The top selling new release was Green Lantern, followed by Horrible Bosses, both titles the first to feature the UltraViolet cloud based digital copy/streaming system.
The interesting exclusive I mentioned is The Tree of Life, which was available on Blu-ray+DVD combo only. This is the first I can remember for a new to disc release, and the first from Fox (Disney are the usual culprits, and they normally only do timed exclusives, whereas there are no plans to ever release a DVD-only edition of The Tree of Life).
