The results and analysis for Blu-ray (and DVD) sales for the week ending 29th October 2011 is in. Another great week for Blu-ray as the two Disney Blu-ray exclusives from recent weeks, The Lion King and Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, are both still selling relatively well (2nd and 4th on the top 10 charts). But there was also a new A-list release in Captain America: The First Avenger, and it did well for a first week release on Blu-ray, with 68% market share (is that a new record - it may very well be!)
And so we have another week in which combined disc revenue rose against the same week last year, by nearly $15 million. It's all to do with releases, so this kind of comparison isn't too useful, but considering the growth of digital distribution (which takes away revenue from DVDs, as most digital streaming is still done in SD), these are pretty solid figures for the home video industry.
