The results and analysis for Blu-ray (and DVD) sales for the week ending 24th March 2012 is in. The Muppets fought the remade The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo (1080p trailer download here) hard for the week's number one spot, and won. 3 more new releases were also available, two of them got over $100m at the box office, while 3 managed to get over 50% Blu-ray share (meaning their Blu-ray and combo editions outsold the DVD-only editions)
It was interesting to note the observation of a 20th Fox executive that disc sales are on the up again, after falling quite dramatically for the first half of 2011. I've noted the same observation, with year-on-year revenue growth occuring much more frequently over the last few weeks. While most of the growth has come from Blu-ray, as usual, what allowed combined revenue growth to occur more frequently is the flattening of the rate of decline for DVD sales (for example, DVD sales only fell 2.8% this week compared to a year ago, when DVD sales were down 50.9% compared to a further year ago).
