The results and analysis for Blu-ray (and DVD) sales for the week ending 4th August 2012 is in. Another ultra quiet week, so quiet that Blu-ray revenue and market share both retreated back to record low levels, not seen since September 2010 and 2011 respectively. The TV mini series Hatfields & McCoys was the best selling new release, although it only came second on the top 10 Blu-ray charts.
This also marks one of those weird weeks in which DVD revenue, Blu-ray revenue and even Blu-ray market share all fell compared to the same week last year. But last year's week had the release of Rio, and next week, we'll have the release of the even bigger box office smash, The Lorax. Then The Hunger Games after that, means a August is about to get really hot really quickly.
