There's a new king of home consoles, at least for one month. The Nintendo Switch has outsold all others, including the super popular PS4 and the Xbox One, to become the best selling home console in March. These sales figures are from research group NPD, covering the all important North American markets.

An estimated 906,000 Switch consoles were sold in March in North America, half a million in the first week alone, with the hit game The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wind, selling even more copies than there are consoles in the U.S!

NPD was also keen to point out the battle for second place was won by Sony's PS4, beating the Xbox One yet again.

Despite coming in third, Microsoft pointed out that the Xbox is being played more than ever, with 1.1 billion multiplayer gaming hours in March alone, up 14% from a year ago.

Microsoft will be relying on its upcoming Xbox One update, the Scorpio, to reverse its fortunes by supplying gamers with the most powerful console ever built when it is released later this year.
